Sleep - The Sciences album
Performer: Sleep
Title: The Sciences
Country: UK, Europe & US
Genre: Rock
Style:Stoner Rock, Doom Metal
Released: 2018
MP3 album szie: 1724 mb
FLAC album size: 1840 mb

The Sciences is the fourth studio album by American doom metal band Sleep. The album was released with little warning on April 20, 2018 through Third Man Records. It was the band's first full-length album since Dopesmoker (2003) on which the song "Sonic Titan" appeared as a live bonus track. Just a month after the release of The Sciences, Sleep released the non-album song "Leagues Beneath" through Adult Swim's 2018 weekly single series.

The Sciences is the fourth studio album by Sleep, and the band’s first new studio album since the 2003 version of Dopesmoker. The band has characterized their newer material as. n amalgamated effort of decades of riff immersion. The Sciences Q&A.

The Sciences by Sleep, released 20 April 2018 1. Marijuanaut's Theme 2. Sonic Titan 3. Giza Butler 4. Antarcticans Thawed 5. The Botanist 6. The Sciences. Rob Great Album, Every track is killer, Glad they got back together to give us this recording.

It's been 15 years since Sleep's last album, Dopesmoker, whose 63-minute title track was all about marijuana. They surprised-released its long-awaited follow-up, The Sciences, today, which, probably not coincidentally, just so happens to be April 20. The news came yesterday via Stereogum, who noted that it's on Third Man Records, the label owned by Jack White, and paid special attention to the fact that one of its six tracks (listed below) is called Marijuanaut’s Theme.

The album is, in the purest and most straightforward sense, a logical and hugely satisfying progression for Sleep and a very worthy follow-up to their previous work. The essential trick of The Sciences-and the reason it feels like more than an overdue cash-in-is these 40something dudes have managed to grow up without growing old. Their minds are still focused on weed and the escape that it offers, but that’s just the gag; these riffs, rhythms, and the mantra-like singing of Al Cisneros are a drug unto themselves, evidence of a band that’s improved upon their animating idea.

Sleep ‎– The Sciences. Label: Third Man Records ‎– none. The Sciences ‎(2xLP, Album, Ltd, Gre). The Sciences ‎(2xLP, Album, Ltd, Bla).

Since then, Sleep have slowly but steadily returned to being a working band, and 2018's The Sciences, their first full-length effort since Dopesmoker, is less of a follow-up to that obsessive triumph than a victory lap, a consolidation of their strengths confirming this trio still has the vision and the muscle to bring their distinctive sound to life.

Sleep will release their first new album in almost 20 years, The Sciences, tomorrow. April 20 only falls on a Friday once every seven years, so why waste it? Modern metal’s ultimate weed band will exhale six brand new tracks tomorrow, totaling 53 minutes. The Sciences will be the first Sleep album since and will feature the freshest Sleep music since The Clarity was released as a single via Adult Swim in 2014.

Yes, but if someone does not understand 1200 of 10,000 sent without a sticker and then applied in Europe to distinguish them from the black vinyl edition. dot put your heart at rest your green vinyl is brother in every way to those 8800 that have been sold in America, what do we do sticker collection? ? ?

I got two identical copies of this listing with the only difference that each copy is having one of those two sticker variants presented in the pics here. Anyone knows the story of this behind? First runs, second runs... different packaging plants... Third Man Website releases ... ?

I've also asked TMR about this. This is their reply:"Thank you for your message. There were three color variants - black/green split, transparent green, and black. The transparent green and standard black variants have the same jacket, and all three (as far as I'm aware) have the same barcode. They have different catalog numbers in our inventory system, however the jackets/records themselves all have the same catalog number. As far as hype stickers go, that I can't be 100% sure of because I don't know if distributors in Europe were provided with hype stickers, or if they printed their own. Thanks again for reaching out, I hope I've cleared up any confusion. Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be happy to help however possible. Thank you,TMR Vault"Therefore, there is no "Indie Green Vinyl" which is limited to 1200, it's just 1200 copies of the 10.000 copies of the first press, exported to europe.

Thanks for the fast reply :) But "no" (for me), both greens are the same, as well es every other detail...

From what I researched, the silverish one with the Third-Man-Logo is the "standard green" variant, limited to 10.000, while the blackish sticker without the logo is the sticker for the "Indie Green" variant, limited to 1200 which is EU-only. Not sure about this though, I was thinking that those two variants should be different in colour as well.

This is a crazy release, picked up a translucent green version and it's an amazingly quiet pressing. The track GIZA BUTLER is fantastic.

Not very many pressed on green for the web store, my brick and mortar shop only got 3 copies of it. No surprise copies got sent out.

I purchased mine on May 19 at Third Man, Cass Corridor in Detroit. I had to ask for it (wasn't on the shelf, at the cash) & was told it was the 'last' copy there.

Amazed how the initial 10,000 supposedly sold out so quick but now guessing half were for the US market & the remainder distributed worldwide with the UK getting 1200 copies. Happy to have finally nabbed a copy without getting scalped despite HMV canceling my original order claiming the the UK supplier of the Green pressing was no longer getting any copies at all ?

My copy is a very good pressing. Pretty much free of audible pops and clicks. The mastering is great, dynamic and not the usual overly compressed mush often associated with records of this genre. Good separation of instruments but also good thick and heavy to boot. Minor gripe is both discs have a small warp, pretty much undetectable in playback but disappointing nonetheless.

Local record store got some more copies in on Wednesday (5/2) and they were green so I picked one up. No sticker on the cover. Store clerk told me they hadn't even received any black copies yet, so yeah. Just thought I'd share for those still looking for green copies and hopefully dissuade any from giving money to price gougers.

mine is sounding pretty dynamic and loud. this is also the 1st time, strangely enough, that sleep has released an album as originally intended by the band. holy mountain is a demo. dopesmoker has been fucked seven ways til and sleep still shrugs their shoulders at the tee pee release. i am confident the sciences has been released as wanted.

If you're in Europe DO NOT BUY THIS NOW from overpriced flippers on here.An official European pressing is coming in May.My local indie record store says the green version will be limited to 500 copies in the UK (not sure if he meant Europe instead of UK) and 1200 copies world wide on May 18th according to the record label blurb.I'm not sure if this includes this US pressing or if the European version will be a different green (such as they've done numerous times with Dopesmoker pressings), but either way, don't pay extortionate prices to flippers. Just pre-order from your record store and be patient!

Another over priced album from third man. They put one records worth of material across two records which sucks. First side just under 10 minutes, side two is 12.26, side three is 14.23 and side four is 16.30 minutes long. Wished I got the cd instead. Third Man owns its own publishing and pressing plant and they still want 30 dollars for this record on thier website with no distro fees. This practics sucks, this record should be under 25 dollars in stores and thier website.
Venemarr
Venemarr
im not too sure what you expected. Should they split up the longer songs so they fit the records more to your standards?I agree the price is a bit high and I wouldn't normally be dropping $30 for an album. But this record is almost an hour long and as a fan of Sleep I have no problem paying the $30. Jacket is nice and thick, inner art is awesome. It's Mastered and pressed well. Money well spent, imo.
Kulalbine
Kulalbine
You are obviously thinking about a CD... a "Solid" Lp is around 30 minutes long... this album clocks in around 53 minutes or so... way too long for 1 LP... the 2 LP part is right on... and $30 seems about normal these days (unfortunately) for a double LP... between high "new" pricing and Flippers used market it's getting hard for a guy to buy records...
Winenama
Winenama
I agree that TMR's pricing has gotten terrible. They actually used to be really reasonable around 7 years ago and I think only until very recently did it get bad like this. This album seems to be Third Man's most expensive 2xLP. I was also very annoyed by this. Deathwish Inc. could put this same record and only charge $22 to $24.
Adrierdin
Adrierdin
Not defending Third Man or anything but if they didn't make this a double LP, they'd have to squeeze over 30 mins of music onto the B side.. I don't think anybody wants that.

Just picked one up at one of my local shops. I just listed it for the price I paid if anyone wants one that missed out or can’t make it to a shop. I also sent TMR an email asking about the record and they told me they could neither confirm nor deny that anywhere from 100 to 100,000 had been pressed*EDIT* Sold in less than 1 minute for $30! Eat that you stupid flippers!

So you basically paid someone to get a copy from you. Your point being someone would pay $30 for this? I doubt “the flippers”care what anyone does, and with all the technology available these days if you missed a copy it’s probably on you. I used a “phone” and called my record store and had them order it for me (mindblowing).

This is starting to pop up on line stores today. So DON'T pay flipper prices yet. It is my understanding that most shops are just getting their orders in this week. If they really made 10k of these they should be easy to track down.

I think people in this community are allowing their frustration to cloud their understanding that there were a very limited quantity of the black/green variant pressed and the market for that variant is going to reflect it's limited pressing. If you have to have that variant, expect to pay for it from a reputable seller (anything over $250 is absurd). As for the rest of the sellers marking up the green variant, just ignore them and move on to someone else. There are plenty out there. No need to give the release 1 star because you're angry that you missed out. That's the record collecting game. It happens all the time.

I have my doubts they pressed 10,000 on green though. My store ordered 15 in the dark when it was a surprise release which was the max we were allowed to order. We were only given 4

Third Man Records released this specifically as a "secret release" to record stores. Many stores possibly did not even buy them outright or did not buy as many as they might have if they knew what it was. Too, I know that distributors received "The Sciences" the day before it was to be released, so they were drop shipped (ie over-night) to record stores. Some record stores are possibly receiving copies today (Monday, April 23rd, 2018) if their distributor did not drop ship, but it's a stretch. What I'm trying to say is do NOT pay flippers. There are [EDIT: copies] of this album out there. You can find one for a decent price if you look. Also, if you want just the music get a black copy. Flippers are driving fans out. Don't support them.

The apology email that went out from All That Is Heavy on the evening of 4/20 indicated that 10,000 copies of the green vinyl were pressed. They were apologizing for a problem with overcharging. I don't know if the 10,000 figure is correct, but that's the only semi-official place I've seen it mentioned."I am pleased to let everyone who kept their order know... You have been issued a $50.00 refund, dropping the price of the album to $29.99. You ARE getting 1 of the 10,000 GREEN copies that are now sold out."

I translated the Morse code etched in the vinyl. It's actually backwards. It says "super lemon haze", "cat piss romulan", "Skywalker OG" and "purple kush". I might have messed up the romulan one because I just got "w piss romulan" but I was able to infer from it. Just FYI, I haven't seen anyone else post it yet.
